How to choose a pickleball paddle

Three things matter most:

• Shape. Elongated paddles give more reach and power on serves and drives. Widebody paddles have a bigger sweet spot and faster hands at the kitchen. Hybrids sit in between. (Read our elongated vs widebody guide.)
• Core thickness. 16mm feels softer and more controlled; 14mm is crisper and pops more. (See 14mm vs 16mm explained.)
• Weight and swing weight. Lighter, lower swing-weight paddles are quicker in hand battles; heavier paddles feel more stable and drive harder.
